“International cooperation, multilateralism is indispensable.”Hans Blix
Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation program ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020).
While EU sponsored programs for research and innovation (such as Horizon 2020, Eurostars, ERA-NET, among others) provide attractive sources of funding, they are notoriously complex and highly competitive. To realise these opportunities, project coordinators must develop a strong scientific concept and implementation strategy for their research idea. In addition, policy aspects, exploitation potential and administrative issues need to be considered for a competitive proposal. Moreover, in cooperative proposals an entire consortium needs to be led and managed over a stringent time line.
The administrative burden can lead to common, but avoidable mistakes in the preparation of a project proposal, such as a lack of:
coherence and effectiveness of the work plan compared to the available resources
consistency of the work plan
comprehensive risk analysis and a contingency plan
complementary partners within the consortium
a clear connection between the proposed research and the proposal call
