As the EUthyroid project moves into its second half, the project management team met for a two-day meeting in Greifswald to discuss project progress and define a clear roadmap towards achieving the ambitious goals set out for the project. Verily, A New Hope performance at VBC – Vienna

On Wednesday 21st and Friday 23rd September 2016 the Vienna Biocenter Amateur Dramatic Club (VBC ADC) performed ‘Verily, A New Hope’ William Shakespeare’s Star Wars by Ian Doescher to an enthusiastic audience from the Vienna Biocenter. Biolution was represented in the performance by Matthew Spencer playing Uncle Owen in the 1st half and an X-wing pilot in the 2nd half.

IGN / EUthyroid satellite meeting – Copenhagen

On Saturday 3rd September the 1st EUthyroid satellite meeting was held in Copenhagen, Denmark. This event was organised in cooperation with the Iodine Global Network of Western and Central Europe satellite meeting as a pre-conference event of the 39th annual meeting of the European Thyroid Association.

Over 50 people attended the event and were treated to presentations from EUthyroid consortium members on a range of topics under the theme of harmonisation of iodine nutrition in Europe to tackle the problem of iodine deficiency.

EUthyroid Project Meeting – Copenhagen

Europe remains a patchwork with respect to iodine deficiency prevention programmes, as national programmes are diverse and lack coordination. The EUthyroid project aims to coordinate national stakeholders and mobilise synergies. The second EUthyroid project meeting was held on 1 – 2 September 2016 and hosted by the Research Centre for Prevention and Health (RCPH) in Copenhagen. All work package leaders had the opportunity to discuss progress during the first 15 months of the project and outline their plans for the future.

EUthyroid Policy Meeting – Brussels

EUthyroid held a policy meeting in Brussels on April 28, in order to promote harmonisation of iodine deficiency (ID) prevention programmes in Europe. Presentations from Henry Völzke (University Medicine Greifswald, DE), John Lazarus (Iodine Global Network, CA) and Rodrigo Moreno-Reyes (Erasme-ULB, BE) summarised the aims of EUthyroid, the current iodine status in Europe and a review of ID from the past to the present. Yvette Azzopardi (DG SANTE, BE) reviewed the legal issues around the ability of the EU to advise and legislate concerning health related topics.

Fahr mit photo book presentation

SYMPATH Fahr Mit – Parkinson bike tour 2015 – Photobook presentation and AFFiRiS reception

On 20th January 2016, SYMPATH coordinator AFFiRiS opened its doors to host a special presentation event for SYMPATH FAHR-MIT participants. 11 FAHR-MIT participants from across Austria attended this event in addition to SYMPATH participants from AFFiRiS, Prosenex and biolution. The event comprised of a reception, a presentation of a commemorative photobook depicting the best moments from the bike tour, presentations from Dr Iris Grünert (biolution) and Dr Achim Schneeberger (AFFiRiS) about the SYMPATH FAHR-MIT event and the latest news from the SYMPATH project and clinical trials, and also a guided tour of the AFFiRiS laboratories. The event concluded with a discussion of how to support future events to raise awareness for Parkinson’s disease and the SYMPATH project.
